Teeth Whitening FAQ’s

Do you ever look in the mirror or at a picture of yourself and wish your teeth were whiter? Maybe it is one of those things that is always on the back of your mind, but for some reason, you never get around to doing it. South Temple Dental specializes in teeth whitening in Salt Lake City, and we have teeth whitening options available for everyone.

How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?

The results from a teeth whitening treatment can last from six months to two years. The effects of the treatment will last longer as you avoid food and drinks that cause staining, such as wine and coffee.

Is Teeth Whitening Safe? What Are the Risks?

Most bleaching products available through a dentist and most over-the-counter whitening toothpastes have received the ADA Seal of Acceptance meaning they meet the ADA safety requirements. Over-the-counter bleaching products do not have the ADA Seal of Acceptance because it is recommended to receive a professional consultation before using bleaching products. There can be some side effects associated with bleaching products such as tooth sensitivity and gum irritation. Any sensitivity that occurs will disappear shortly after you stop using the product. If one of these side effects occurs, you can either shorten the amount of time you use the bleaching product or use a toothpaste made for sensitive teeth.

Does Teeth Whitening Cause Any Damage?

Studies have shown that teeth whitening does not cause any damage to enamel or nerves. They also do not harm any existing dental restorations such as fillings or crowns. The problem here is that the teeth whitening products will not lighten pre-existing restorations meaning those restorations may need to be replaced as the teeth whiten in order to match.

How Can You Maintain Your Whiter Smile?

There are many ways to keep your new white smile sparkling. Avoid consuming drinks that stain teeth or use a straw when consuming those drinks so that the beverage passes your teeth. Make sure to touch up your treatment every few months to keep your teeth from fading too much. Also, always remember to brush your teeth twice a day and floss once a day.

 Gum Contouring
02 May, 2024
Many people dream of having a perfect smile. Beyond straight, white teeth, the shape and health of one's gums play a crucial role in achieving this. Gum contouring is a cosmetic procedure that has gained popularity for its ability to reshape the gum line, remove excess tissue to reveal more of the teeth, or make the gum line more uniform. This procedure not only enhances the aesthetics of a smile but also contributes to oral health by removing places where bacteria can hide, potentially reducing the risk of gum diseases. It's an option worth considering for those looking to improve their smile's appearance and boost their confidence.
